Yihe is a town in Chongqing municipality, in the folded hill country of the upper Yangtze basin. Here the land rarely lies flat for long, and settlements are shaped by the ridges and small valleys around them. Terraced fields, winding roads and clusters of buildings all adjust to the slope.
On the map, Yihe appears as an irregular settlement rather than a grid. Streets curve to follow contours, some running along a valley floor, others climbing toward higher ground. The built area thins quickly at its edges, giving way to the open spaces of farmland and hillside that surround it.
