Young Map Poster
Young is an agricultural town in Río Negro Department in western Uruguay. Its map is a good example of the orderly planning found across rural Uruguay. The centre is a regular grid of square blocks around a main plaza, and the pattern continues outward until it meets the surrounding fields.
Beyond the edge of town, the landscape is open and gently rolling. It is used for grain, livestock and forestry. The roads that leave Young run straight for long distances, dividing the land into large rectangular parcels. A railway line crosses the area, recalling the town's development as a service centre for farming.
