Yuxia lies south-west of Xi'an in Shaanxi province, close to where the level Guanzhong plain ends against the steep northern face of the Qinling Mountains. That setting gives the area a clear division on the map: to the north, a flat pattern of fields, villages and straight roads; to the south, valleys and ridges that rise quickly into the range.
The town itself is a compact cluster of streets, with main roads running out across the plain toward larger centres in the Xi'an area. Small rivers descend from the mountains and cross the farmland in roughly parallel lines, a pattern typical of this edge of the Qinling, where water drains north toward the Wei River.
A Yuxia map poster shows that meeting of plain and mountain in a single frame.
