Zagné is a town in the far west of Ivory Coast, in the green and rainy country near the Liberian border. From above the town is modest in size, a cluster of streets and compounds around a few main roads, surrounded by plantations, forest remnants and tracks leading to outlying villages.
Maps of places like this show how people settle in a forested region. Buildings follow the roads closely, footpaths branch between fields, and the edge of the town fades gradually into farmland instead of stopping at a clear boundary. In black and white this makes a gentle, organic composition with few straight lines.
