Zaragoza lies in the Bajo Cauca subregion of Antioquia, on the banks of the Nechí River. The town follows the river, with its main streets running close to the water and blocks stepping back from the bank. Beyond the built area the map fills with lowland forest, pasture and smaller watercourses feeding into the Nechí.
Founded in the late sixteenth century, Zaragoza is one of the older colonial settlements in Antioquia and grew around gold mining in the river valleys. Mining still shapes the local economy and landscape, and the river has always been its main route and reference point.
A Zaragoza map poster is organised around a single strong line: the Nechí curving through the frame. The town's compact grid sits on one bank, and roads and streams branch out from it across the lowland. The river gives the poster movement, while the street blocks provide a solid anchor.
