The mining town grid
Zouérat's streets form a compact pattern of blocks. It is the only dense texture on the poster, surrounded on all sides by empty desert.

Zouérat Map Poster & Print
Zouérat lies in Tiris Zemmour, in the far north of Mauritania, deep in the Sahara. It is a mining town, built around the extraction of iron ore from the surrounding hills, including the massif of Kediet ej Jill. On the map the town is a small, compact cluster of streets surrounded by open desert.
The ore leaves on one of the longest and heaviest trains in the world, which crosses hundreds of kilometres of desert to the port of Nouadhibou on the Atlantic coast. The railway, the mine roads and the open-pit workings stand out as strong artificial lines and shapes in an otherwise empty landscape.
A Zouérat map poster shows that isolation very clearly: a dense grid of streets, a few straight roads and tracks, and a great deal of white space. Few places have such a simple and striking relationship between the town and its surroundings, and the poster reflects that directly.

The ore railway
The line to Nouadhibou leaves the mining area in a long, straight track. It is the most notable single line on the map.
Kediet ej Jill
This iron-rich massif rises near the town. Its mine workings and access roads show how closely the town and the mountain are linked.

Zouératを選ぶ理由
想いが詰まった地図
Zouérat is a place people rarely visit by chance. For mining engineers, railway workers and families who lived there, a map of the town is a strong reminder of a demanding and unusual place.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, and choose from five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The Sand style suits the desert especially well. Buy the files for $9, or order a printed poster with an optional frame.
