The river winds through the centre of town, and most of the street network lines up along its banks, giving the map a strong, flowing axis.

Apengjiang Map Poster & Print
Apengjiang is a town in the Qianjiang district of south-eastern Chongqing, among the steep, forested ridges of the Wuling mountains. The town shares its name with the river that runs through it, and like many settlements in this terrain it is shaped almost entirely by the valley floor. On a map the built area forms a narrow ribbon between the hills, widening only where the valley allows.
Streets run parallel to the river, with a few crossings linking the two banks and short lanes climbing into the slopes. Newer blocks fill whatever flat land is available, and main roads thread through the valley on their way to larger towns. The result is a linear plan quite unlike a grid, defined by water and gradient rather than by design.
An Apengjiang map poster makes the most of this shape: a winding river down the middle, streets drawn tight along its course, and the mountains suggested by the empty space around them. It is an unusual composition, particularly striking in a tall format, and a meaningful one for anyone from the Qianjiang area.

Bridges and crossings
A small number of bridges join the two sides of the valley, appearing as short, deliberate strokes across the water that tie the town together.
Mountain setting
Steep slopes rise on both sides, leaving little room to build. On the poster they become broad empty areas that make the narrow town stand out.
