An Nāşirīyah Map Poster & Print
An Nāşirīyah lies in Asyut Governorate in Upper Egypt, in the narrow strip of cultivated land along the Nile. On the map the pattern is distinctive. The river runs along one side, a band of fields and irrigation channels fills the valley floor, and the desert begins abruptly where the water stops. The town's streets sit within this green corridor.
In this part of Egypt, life and settlement follow the line of the river. Canals branch off the Nile and divide the land into long, narrow plots, and roads and villages follow the same north–south direction. The town is compact and its streets close together, a sensible way to leave the fertile land around it for farming.
An An Nāşirīyah map poster captures the Nile valley at a local scale. There's the dense town, fields cut into strips by channels, and the sharp boundary with the desert. In Sand or Paper the contrast between farmed land and open ground comes through with particular clarity.

Canals and plots
Irrigation channels branch from the river and divide the fields into long plots. Together they make a fine, mostly parallel pattern across the valley floor.
Compact town
The streets are closely packed, keeping the built-up area small and leaving the surrounding fertile land free for cultivation.
