Boon Lay lies in the west of Singapore, named after Chew Boon Lay, a businessman who owned land here around the turn of the twentieth century. Today the name is closely tied to the neighbourhood around Boon Lay MRT station and the surrounding Jurong West housing estates. From above, the district shows the careful planning typical of the island: rows of residential blocks, loop roads and generous green buffers.
The East-West Line runs overhead on a long viaduct, and Boon Lay served as its western terminus for many years before the extension to Joo Koon.
