The Mayu River
The river runs past the town and dominates the map with its wide curves. The town's streets are oriented toward it, reflecting the river's long role as a route to the south.

Buthidaung Town Map Poster & Print
Buthidaung lies in the north of Rakhine State, on the Mayu River, in a valley east of the Mayu Range. The river is the main feature of the map. The town's streets are set along its bank, and the land around them is a patchwork of paddy fields, streams and low hills that appears mostly open on the poster.
A road crosses the Mayu Range to Maungdaw near the coast, and the route over the hills has long connected the two towns. The river also served as a transport route toward Sittwe and the south, which influenced where the town grew and how its streets face the water.
A Buthidaung Town map poster shows a small river town surrounded by water and countryside. The streets are few and simple, and the curves of the Mayu and its side channels carry most of the design. This sparse composition works well for a place defined more by its landscape than by its buildings.

Road over the range
A road leads west over the Mayu Range to Maungdaw. On the map it rises out of the town and crosses forested hills, forming a strong line toward the coast.
Paddy and streams
Around the town, small streams and fields fill the lowland. They appear as fine lines and open space that surround the modest street grid.
