Lake Chełmżyńskie

Chełmża Map Poster & Print
Chełmża lies north of Toruń on the shore of Lake Chełmżyńskie, a long, slender body of water that dominates its map. The old town sits close to the water, with a market square and a regular grid of streets typical of medieval towns founded in this region. Newer districts spread away from the lake, while open fields surround the town on the remaining sides.
For centuries Chełmża was the seat of the bishops of Chełmno, and its Gothic co-cathedral of the Holy Trinity remains the town's most distinctive building, standing near the lakeshore. The street plan still reflects that medieval origin. On a black and white poster, the ordered old town, the church precinct and the curving shoreline form a composition of rare clarity.
A Chełmża map poster is a thoughtful gift for people raised on these streets, those who studied in nearby Toruń, or families who keep ties with the region. The lake gives the design its character: a smooth, open shape set against the fine line work of the town, instantly recognisable to anyone who knows the place.

Medieval grid
The old town keeps a regular layout of streets around the market square, a planning pattern shared by many towns founded in this region in the Middle Ages.
Cathedral precinct
The Holy Trinity co-cathedral stands near the water, and the streets around it show how the church precinct and the town grew side by side.

Cur Chełmża
Tabula quae aliquid significat
Chełmża is small, yet its lake and cathedral give it a strong identity. For those who have left, a map of these streets keeps the town present, whether they now live in Toruń, Gdańsk or abroad.
Set your own title and subtitle and edit the coordinates line to mark a particular address. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Blueprint shows the precise medieval grid and the outline of the lake particularly well.
