Square-block grid
The town is laid out as a regular grid of blocks around a central plaza. This gives the centre of the poster a steady, even rhythm.

General Alvear Map Poster & Print
General Alvear lies in the south of Mendoza province, in the dry country east of the Andes. Irrigation made farming possible here. On a map the town is a regular grid of square blocks with a central plaza, and wide avenues run out into the countryside. Around it, farm plots are laid out in long rectangles along irrigation channels.
The area depends on water from the Atuel River, and its farms have long produced wine grapes and fruit. That shows clearly from above. The town is the densest part of a wider pattern of straight lines, in which roads, canals and field boundaries all follow the same geometry across the flat land.
A General Alvear map poster shows how thoroughly people have shaped a dry landscape. The grid is clean and generous, with little of the irregularity of older colonial towns, and the fields outside repeat it at a larger scale. The result is balanced and architectural, and it hangs well in a calm, modern interior.

Irrigated fields
Long rectangular plots and canals spread out from the town. They carry the grid pattern into the countryside at a wider spacing.
Avenues outward
Broad avenues lead from the centre toward the farmland. On the map they are strong straight axes that frame the rest of the plan.
