Town grid
Straight, evenly spaced streets make up the core of Gobabis. The regular grid stands out clearly against the open land around it.

Gobabis Map Poster & Print
Gobabis is the capital of Omaheke Region in eastern Namibia, on the western edge of the Kalahari. From above, the town is a compact grid of streets laid out on flat, open land. The dry bed of the Black Nossob river runs nearby, and beyond the last houses the map spreads into farmland and bush.
The town is known as the centre of Namibian cattle country, and ranching still shapes life across the region. Gobabis sits on the Trans-Kalahari corridor, the main road link between Windhoek and the Botswana border, so it has long been a stopping point for travellers and freight crossing southern Africa.
A Gobabis map poster is spare and orderly. The grid sets the rhythm, the highway runs through as a long, confident line, and the riverbed adds a single soft curve. Around it, large farm plots and open land leave plenty of space, which gives the print a calm, spacious feel that suits the Kalahari landscape.

Trans-Kalahari road
The main highway toward Windhoek and the Botswana border runs through town. It is the dominant line on the map and the route most visitors know.
Black Nossob river
The seasonal Black Nossob river bed curves past the town. It is dry for much of the year, and it adds a natural line to an otherwise geometric plan.

Cur Gobabis
Tabula quae aliquid significat
Gobabis suits farming families of the Omaheke, travellers who stopped here on the road to Botswana, and anyone with ties to eastern Namibia. The empty space around the grid says as much about the place as the streets do.
