Contour-hugging roads
The main roads trace the valley floors and bend with the slopes. They give the poster long, flowing curves where most town plans would have straight avenues.

Gongping Map Poster & Print
Gongping sits in the rugged northeast of Chongqing, in the region of steep ridges and deep valleys that surrounds the Three Gorges stretch of the Yangtze. In country like this, flat land is scarce, and the map makes that obvious. Streets do not form a grid. They run along valley floors and terraces, doubling back where the slope turns, and the town stretches out rather than spreading wide.
The road pattern is the clearest record of the terrain. Main routes follow the easiest gradient between hills. Smaller lanes climb away from them in short switchbacks, and buildings gather wherever a shelf of ground allowed it. Even without shaded relief, a street map of Gongping shows where the mountains are, because the roads have had to go around them.
A Gongping map poster turns that constraint into a drawing. Its curving lines contrast with the ruled grids of lowland cities. The map is made from open data and rendered at 300 DPI, so fine switchbacks stay legible at every print size. It is a quiet, precise way to remember a place shaped by the mountains of the upper Yangtze region.

Terraced lanes
Short side streets climb in tight switchbacks from the main routes. On the print they appear as small zigzags that show where the ground rises most steeply.
Linear footprint
Because level land is limited, the town is long and narrow. That gives the composition a strong direction that sits well in either portrait or landscape framing.
