G‘uzor Map Poster & Print
G‘uzor lies in the Qashqadaryo region of southern Uzbekistan, where the Guzar river leaves the foothills and enters the plain. Water has always defined the place. The town grew as an oasis on routes between the Qarshi steppe and the lands to the south. On a map it is still surrounded by irrigated fields and orchards, with the river setting the direction of everything around it.
From above, the town has two layers. The older neighbourhoods have the irregular, closely packed lanes of Central Asian mahallas, with houses built around inner courtyards. Newer districts and main roads bring straighter lines. Irrigation channels and tree-lined streets thread through the whole settlement, following the water down the valley.
A G‘uzor map poster brings out the contrast between the dense old lanes and the ordered fields around them. In black and white, the irrigation lines become fine strokes and the mahallas become intricate texture. The river valley gives the whole image a gentle diagonal flow across the frame.

Mahalla lanes
Older neighbourhoods are made of narrow, winding lanes and courtyard houses. This dense texture contrasts with the straighter roads of newer districts.
Irrigated oasis
Canals and ditches carry water to the orchards and fields around the town. On the map they appear as fine lines dividing the land into parcels.
