Harwich Map Poster & Print

Harwich occupies the tip of a small peninsula on the Essex coast, where the estuaries of the Stour and the Orwell join before reaching the North Sea. Across the water lies Felixstowe. The old town at the tip keeps a compact medieval street pattern of parallel lanes, while Dovercourt spreads south along the seafront and Parkeston, with the ferry terminal, lies to the west.

Harwich has been a naval and trading port for centuries. Christopher Jones, master of the Mayflower, lived in the town, and the High and Low Lighthouses once guided ships into the harbour. The Ha'penny Pier and the quayside still face the estuary, and ferries to the Netherlands leave from Harwich International.

A Harwich map poster shows a town almost entirely surrounded by water. The small grid of the old town, the long curve of the Dovercourt shore and the wide estuary together create a strong, well-balanced composition. It is a classic coastal map, clean and legible at any print size.

Old town grid

At the tip of the peninsula, a tight arrangement of narrow parallel streets preserves the plan of the medieval port, framed by water on three sides.

02

Stour and Orwell

Two estuaries meet at Harwich, forming a broad harbour with Felixstowe's container port on the opposite shore, a large open area on the map.

03

Dovercourt seafront

South of the old town, Dovercourt follows a long, gently curving shoreline, home to the Victorian leading lights that once marked the channel.

Cur Harwich

Tabula quae aliquid significat

Harwich suits anyone with a family link to the sea, to the Navy or to the ferries. Some choose it because the Mayflower story starts here, and others simply love the way the peninsula sits in the water.

Change the title, subtitle and coordinates line to mark a crossing, a family name or a special date. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint fits the maritime subject well.
