Winding streets
Streets follow the slopes rather than a grid, curving and doubling back as they climb. This gives the centre of the poster a dense, flowing texture.

Jiuchi Map Poster & Print
Jiuchi is a town in the municipality of Chongqing, near Wanzhou in the Three Gorges region along the Yangtze. The land here is steep and folded, and settlements follow the ground closely. On the map, streets rarely run straight for long. They bend along the slopes, climb between terraces and gather wherever the land is flat enough to build on.
The rise of the Yangtze behind the Three Gorges Dam reshaped the whole region. Old riverside towns were flooded, and much was rebuilt on higher ground. Around Jiuchi, roads trace long switchbacks up and down the hillsides, and the surrounding land is divided into small, irregular plots. On paper the result is a winding web of lines rather than a regular grid.
A Jiuchi map poster shows a side of Chongqing far from the dense towers of the city centre, in the hill country along the Yangtze. It appeals to people who grew up in the area and now live in Chongqing, Chengdu or the coastal cities, and to anyone interested in how mountains shape a town. In black and white, the winding lines become the whole subject.

Hillside roads
Roads leave the town in long switchbacks across the hills. They are the clearest sign of the steep land, even in a flat black-and-white drawing.
Terraced plots
Around the settlement, small irregular fields and tracks cover the slopes, filling the outer area of the map with a fine, uneven pattern.
