Kirkcaldy Map Poster & Print

Kirkcaldy stretches along the northern shore of the Firth of Forth in Fife. It has long been known as the Lang Toun because of its linear shape. On the map, the town follows the coast for several kilometres: the esplanade and the main street run parallel to the shore, and the neighbourhoods rise inland across gently sloping ground.

The town has a place in intellectual history as the birthplace of Adam Smith, author of The Wealth of Nations. In industrial times it was known worldwide for linoleum production, and the harbour and old industrial sites along the shore reflect that past. Parks and the grounds of Ravenscraig Castle add green space at the eastern end.

A Kirkcaldy map poster makes the most of this unusual form: a town drawn out along the water, not gathered around a centre. The shoreline gives a strong, continuous edge, and the streets behind it produce a detailed texture. It works especially well in landscape framing or on larger sizes.

The Lang Toun

The town runs in a long ribbon along the coast. This linear shape gave Kirkcaldy its historic nickname.

02

Firth of Forth shore

The esplanade and shoreline form the town's southern edge. Open water fills the lower part of the poster.

03

Adam Smith's town

The economist Adam Smith was born here in 1723. The town still commemorates him and his influential work.
