Léré lies in the Mayo-Kebbi Ouest province of southwestern Chad, close to the border with Cameroon. Its setting is shaped by water: the town sits by Lake Léré, one of a chain of lakes along the Mayo Kebbi river system, which links this part of Chad toward the Benue basin.
