Valley town
The built-up area sits in the lower ground between hills. Its shape follows the valley, not a planned grid.

Longmen is a town in the northeastern part of Chongqing municipality, in the rolling hill country that covers much of this region. The land is almost never flat. Streets and buildings settle into valley floors and along the lower slopes, and the surrounding hillsides are cut into terraced fields. On a map the town looks compact and slightly elongated, shaped by the ground it sits on.
Roads here rarely run straight. They follow contours, bend around ridges and drop into valleys, so the connections to neighbouring towns look like looping, uneven lines. Small streams and reservoirs fill the lower ground, and scattered farm settlements dot the slopes. The overall pattern is typical of rural Chongqing: settlement squeezed between hills and linked by winding roads.
A Longmen map poster records this landscape clearly. The dense town core, the ribbons of road leaving it and the fine texture of the terraced countryside make for a detailed composition. For people who grew up in the town, or whose family still lives in the hills around it, the map is a close likeness of home.

Winding roads
Roads loop around ridges and along slopes toward neighbouring towns, forming curved lines that are characteristic of Chongqing's hill country.
Terraced slopes
Farmland on the surrounding hillsides is divided into small terraces and plots, adding layered texture to the edges of the map.
