Milagres Map Poster & Print
Milagres lies in the south of Ceará, in the semi-arid interior of Brazil's Northeast, not far from the Cariri region. The name means miracles. Like many towns of the sertão, it has a compact centre, with streets extending outward along the roads to neighbouring towns. The urban area is small and sits inside a much larger municipality that is mostly open countryside.
Around the town lies the caatinga, the dry thorn scrub of the Brazilian interior, which turns grey in the dry season and green almost overnight when the rains come. On the map the countryside appears as a sparse network of dirt roads and scattered farmhouses, with the town as a dense cluster at the centre.
Milagres is not widely known outside the region, and this poster does not pretend otherwise. A Milagres map poster simply shows the town's shape clearly: its central blocks, its outward roads and the thin lines of the sertão. It is a personal record for the people who know the town, or whose families left it for São Paulo and the South.

Sertão roads
Unpaved roads and tracks spread across the countryside, linking farms and hamlets in the loose, branching pattern typical of the semi-arid interior.
Open caatinga
Wide areas of scrubland with few roads surround the town, leaving calm white space around the streets and giving the poster its sense of distance.

Cur Milagres
Tabula quae aliquid significat
Many families from the interior of Ceará now live far from home, and a map of Milagres is a way to keep the town close. It suits a living room in Fortaleza or São Paulo equally well and makes a meaningful gift for parents or grandparents.
Write the title and subtitle yourself, perhaps a family name or the year someone moved away, and keep the coordinates line. Pick one of five styles, then choose the $9 HD files or a printed poster from one of our partners in more than 30 countries.
