Tabula

Monselice Map Poster & Print

Monselice lies at the southern edge of the Euganean Hills, south of Padua, where a single steep hill, the Rocca, rises out of the flat Veneto plain. The town grew around the foot of this hill. A road of chapels and villas climbs its slope, including the Villa Duodo and the Santuario delle Sette Chiese designed by Vincenzo Scamozzi. The castle, the Castello Cini, stands at the bottom.

The map makes the relationship between hill and town very clear. The streets gather tightly at the base of the Rocca. On the hill itself the street pattern gives way to a winding climbing path and open ground. Around the town, the flat plain is crossed by the Canale Bisatto and by straight roads and railway lines that run towards Padua, Este and Rovigo.

A Monselice map poster shows this contrast between steep and flat, dense and open. It is a good print for walkers who have climbed to the keep at the top, for people from the Padua area, and for anyone drawn to the smaller historic towns of the Veneto.

The Rocca hill

The steep hill at the centre is almost free of streets. A single climbing path winds up it, with the dense town packed in around the base.

02

Street of chapels

The route up past the Scamozzi chapels and Villa Duodo makes a distinct line on the slope. It is one of the best-known walks in the Euganean area.

03

Canal and plain

The Canale Bisatto and straight plain roads cross the flat land around town. Their lines contrast with the rounded shape of the hill.
