Highway spine
The Bengaluru–Chennai route runs past the town as a broad, steady line, the clearest landmark on the map and the axis around which newer growth has settled.

Mulbāgal sits in the east of Karnataka's Kolar district, close to the border with Andhra Pradesh. The main highway between Bengaluru and Chennai passes along the town, and on a map it forms the strongest line, with the older streets gathered beside it. Granite hills and boulder-strewn ridges rise around the settlement, breaking up the farmland of the Kolar plateau.
The name is often explained as a form of Mudalabagilu, the eastern gateway, reflecting the town's position on old routes toward the east coast. Mulbāgal is also associated with the Madhva saint Sripadaraja, whose matha is here, and the temple at Kurudumale lies a short drive away among the surrounding hills.
A Mulbāgal map poster shows how a highway town takes shape: a long, confident road, a cluster of lanes branching from it, and open land giving way to hills. The minimalist style keeps attention on streets and water, while the scattered tanks of the plateau appear as pale shapes across the surrounding countryside.

Plateau tanks
Irrigation tanks, typical of the Kolar region, sit among the fields as irregular open shapes, some of them close to the edge of town.
Rocky surroundings
Low granite hills rise around Mulbāgal, and on the map they show up as gaps in the road network where streets bend around higher ground.
