Railway junction
Several railway lines meet at Nagykanizsa, and their long curves around the town are among the strongest lines on the map. They set it apart from the road-based settlements nearby.

Tabula
Nagykanizsa lies in the south of Zala County, a few kilometres from the border with Croatia. From above it looks like a classic market and railway town. Streets lead out in several directions from a central square, and railway lines sweep around the edges toward the junction that made the town important in the nineteenth century.
The historic centre is compact and irregular, with low blocks around the main square and a network of side streets that loosen into residential districts. Beyond them the town gives way to fields, woodland and the gentle hills of Zala. No large river runs through the centre, so the rail corridors and main roads give the drawing its structure.
Kanizsa was once a major frontier fortress, held by the Ottomans for most of the seventeenth century, though little of the castle survives. In the twentieth century the surrounding area became known for Hungary's early oil fields. A Nagykanizsa map poster shows the town as it is now, a meeting point of routes rather than a walled stronghold.
Several railway lines meet at Nagykanizsa, and their long curves around the town are among the strongest lines on the map. They set it apart from the road-based settlements nearby.
The main square is the obvious centre of gravity, with streets fanning out from it. In print it appears as a small open space surrounded by denser, irregular blocks.
At the edges of the sheet the street network thins into farmland and woods. The contrast keeps the town's outline clear and gives the composition a quiet margin.
