Natchez Map Poster & Print

Natchez occupies bluffs on the east bank of the Mississippi River, and its map is defined by that contrast between a tidy street grid and the broad, curving river below. The downtown blocks run in regular lines toward the edge of the bluff, then stop, leaving the water to carry the western side of the composition.

Founded by the French in 1716 as Fort Rosalie, Natchez is among the oldest settlements on the Mississippi. It is known for its antebellum houses and for Natchez Under-the-Hill, the old landing at the foot of the bluff. The town also marks the southern end of the Natchez Trace Parkway, a historic route running northeast toward Tennessee.

A Natchez map poster shows the bridge reaching across to Louisiana, the grid pressed up against the bluff, and the outlying roads that fan out into wooded country. It is a map with a clear sense of geography, where the river is not a detail but the main event.

01

Bluff-top grid

The historic centre is laid out in straight, regular blocks that run right up to the bluff edge, giving the map a crisp, almost ruled structure beside the river.

02

The Mississippi

The river forms a wide, sweeping band along the western side, dwarfing the streets beside it and giving the poster its strongest, most recognisable shape.

03

River crossing

Bridges carry the highway across the Mississippi toward Vidalia, Louisiana, a single line of connection across the water that anchors the composition.
