Nyahururu Map Poster & Print

Nyahururu sits in Laikipia County, on high ground close to the equator. At around 2,300 metres, it is often counted among the highest towns in Kenya. On a map the town forms a compact grid of streets. Roads lead out towards Nakuru, Nyeri and the wider Laikipia plateau.

The town was long known as Thomson's Falls, after the waterfall on its edge, named for the Scottish explorer Joseph Thomson. There the Ewaso Narok river drops sharply into a gorge, and the falls remain the town's best-known landmark. Its cool highland climate has also made it a training base for long-distance runners.

A Nyahururu map poster brings together the town's grid, the river winding past it and the roads heading across the plateau. The gorge and falls give the drawing a natural feature that anchors one side of the composition. The countryside beyond is shown as a lighter pattern of farm tracks and open land.

01

Thomson's Falls

The Ewaso Narok drops into a gorge on the edge of town. The spot has given Nyahururu its long-standing alternative name.

02

River course

The river winds past the built-up area before reaching the falls. It adds a soft, curving line to the regular street pattern.

03

Plateau roads

Main routes run out across the high Laikipia plateau towards neighbouring towns. They give the poster a strong radiating structure.
