The peninsula
The town fills a narrow tongue of land projecting into the lake. Its streets run along the length of the peninsula, giving the poster a clear central axis.

Ostashkov Map Poster & Print
Ostashkov stands on a peninsula on the southern part of Lake Seliger in Tver Oblast, one of the best-known lakes in central Russia. It is one of the most striking locations for a map. Water surrounds the town on nearly every side, and the streets run the length of the narrow strip of land, with the lake's irregular shoreline all around.
Seliger is a glacial lake, scattered with islands, bays and channels, and a popular summer destination. The Nilov Monastery, on Stolobny Island north of the town, is one of the region's most famous landmarks and a long-standing site of pilgrimage. Ostashkov itself keeps an old centre of churches and merchant streets.
An Ostashkov map poster is mostly about the relationship between land and water. The peninsula shows as a dense block of streets, the lake as a wide, pale field, and the islands and far shores as fragments that frame the town from every side.

Lake Seliger
Seliger's waters wrap around Ostashkov. Its bays, channels and islands create an irregular shoreline, the most dramatic element of the map.
Islands offshore
Small islands, including Stolobny with the Nilov Monastery further north, dot the lake. They appear as scattered shapes that break the open water.
