Pamiers lies in the Ariège department of southern France, on the river of the same name, north of the Pyrenees. It is the department's largest town and the seat of its bishop. On a map, the historic centre forms a compact, irregular core beside the river, with newer districts spreading across the flat valley.
A series of canals, historically used to power mills, runs through and around the old town, adding thin, deliberate lines of water to the street pattern. On a hill at the southern edge of the centre is the Castella, the site of the former castle, now a park. The cathedral of Saint-Antonin stands in the old centre.
A Pamiers map poster combines the curve of the river, the tight medieval streets and the looser pattern of the valley around them. In monochrome, the canals and the green of the Castella become clear accents. It is an attractive, understated portrait of a southern French town, well suited to anyone with ties to Ariège.

Old mill canals
Canals thread through the old town, once powering mills and workshops, and they add fine, parallel lines of water among the streets.
The Castella hill
The raised park on the site of the old castle sits beside the centre, an open green space that gives the dense streets a clear focal point.
