Pangkham Map Poster & Print
Pangkham, also known as Pangsang, lies in the northeast of Myanmar's Shan State, close to the border with China. It is the administrative centre of the Wa Self-Administered Division. On a map, the town occupies the lower ground of a hilly landscape. Its streets gather in a valley, and roads wind out along the contours of the surrounding ridges.
The terrain decides almost everything about the layout. Flat land is scarce, so the built-up area is compact and irregular, with streets bending to follow slopes and watercourses. Beyond the town, the map opens into steep, mostly empty hill country. The few roads through it trace long, looping lines.
A Pangkham map poster shows a mountain town on the edge of a region: a tight settlement in a valley surrounded by open, rugged land. The composition is spare and strongly shaped by the terrain. It suits people with a personal connection to this remote corner of Shan State.

Contour roads
Roads leave town by winding along the hillsides. They draw long, looping lines that follow the shape of the ridges.
Border hills
Steep, sparsely settled hills surround the town toward the Chinese border. On the poster they become broad open space around the settlement.

Tabula quae aliquid significat
Pangkham is rarely mapped for display, which makes a poster of it especially personal. It suits someone from the town or the Wa hills, or someone who worked or travelled there and wants to remember its setting.
