Pebane Map Poster & Print

Pebane is a coastal town in Zambezia Province, Mozambique, on the Indian Ocean shore northeast of Quelimane. The town sits on low land near the sea, and water shapes its outline: the open coast on one side and estuarine channels and wetland on the other. From above the streets form a loose grid that gives way to sand and vegetation.

Fishing is central to life in Pebane, and the shoreline and tidal channels mark where the boats come and go. The surrounding coast is low and marshy in places, with mangroves along the waterways. The map shows the town as a small settlement held between land and water.

A Pebane map poster is dominated by edges: the long curve of the coast, the winding channels and the compact streets of the town. In black and white the sea becomes a clean, empty field against the finer linework on land, which gives a simple and very coastal composition.
