Street pattern shaped by hills
Rather than a grid, the town's streets curve and branch along the valleys, reflecting the uneven ground of the Sichuan Basin's eastern hills.

Pingtan Map Poster & Print
Pingtan is a town in western Chongqing municipality, in the hilly country on the eastern side of the Sichuan Basin. In this part of China, towns rarely sit on flat ground, and on a map Pingtan's streets bend with the terrain, gathering where the land allows and following the valleys between low, rounded hills.
Around the built-up area, the landscape is typical of the region: small fields and terraces, scattered farmhouses, ponds and narrow country roads linking the town to neighbouring villages. The town's streets form a compact centre with a few longer roads leading away, giving the map a clear focus surrounded by fine rural detail.
A Pingtan map poster offers a calm view of a place that most people outside the region would never find on a map. Its irregular street pattern and the soft surrounding network of lanes translate well into black and white, making an understated portrait of a home town for families who have moved elsewhere in China or abroad.

Compact town centre
The densest streets gather in a small centre, giving the poster a clear point of focus from which roads extend toward the surrounding countryside.
Rural lanes and ponds
Around the town, narrow roads, field boundaries and small bodies of water fill the margins with quiet detail, typical of the farmland of western Chongqing.
