Hill-foot roads
Roads bend around the lower slopes of Penang's central hills, following the terrain rather than straight lines. This gives the map a flowing, irregular edge.

Relau is a residential area on Penang Island, in Malaysia, set between the island's forested central hills and the flatter land running south toward Bayan Lepas. On a map it looks layered. Curving roads follow the contours at the foot of the hills, and housing estates and high-rise blocks fill the gentler ground below.
This part of Penang grew quickly as the island expanded south from George Town. Much of Relau's street network consists of looping estate roads and cul-de-sacs rather than a grid, reflecting planned residential development on uneven terrain. A large public park, the Relau Metropolitan Park, gives the area a sizeable green space among the housing.
A Relau map poster shows the point where the island's steep interior meets its built-up plain. Road lines grow denser as the slope eases, and the green edge of the hills appears as an empty area on the map. It is a good example of how topography shapes a modern suburb even when the hills themselves are not drawn.

Estate layouts
Looping roads and dead-end streets mark out individual housing estates, each a small self-contained pattern within the wider neighbourhood.
Park space
The metropolitan park is a clear open area among the residential blocks, one of the few places on the map where the lines give way.

Tabula quae aliquid significat
Penang residents often identify with their particular neighbourhood rather than the island as a whole. A map of Relau suits someone who has lived in one of its estates, studied nearby or kept ties to the island after moving away.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be personalised, for example with a block name or the year you moved in. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. HD files come in six print sizes, each as a 300 DPI PNG and a print-ready PDF.
