Valley-floor streets
The main streets run along the lowest, flattest ground, so the densest part of town appears as a slender band following the valley.

Shaping Map Poster & Print
Shaping is a small town in Chongqing municipality, in the folded hill country of the eastern Sichuan Basin. Terrain shapes its map more than planning does. Streets settle into the flatter valley floor, buildings climb the lower slopes, and roads leave town along the contours. The result is a narrow, elongated core with irregular edges.
The land around the town is farmed, with terraced fields, ponds and scattered farmhouses on the hillsides. Rural Chongqing is known for this pattern of small, stepped plots that follow every rise and fall of the ground. A detailed map does not show the terraces themselves, but the winding roads and field tracks trace their outline clearly.
A Shaping map poster suits anyone who knows the town through family or work. It also shows a side of Chongqing far from the dense riverside megacity most people picture. Here the town is drawn as a thread of streets laid between the hills, with farmland on every side.

Contour-hugging roads
Roads out of town bend again and again to keep to workable gradients. Their looping lines give the map a relaxed, organic rhythm.
Farm tracks and ponds
Small tracks and reservoirs dot the surrounding hillsides, adding fine detail and scattered shapes to the open countryside around the town.
