S-train line
The Frederikssund line of Copenhagen's S-train network crosses the town and stops at Stenløse station. Its straight track divides the map and explains why the town grew where it did.

Stenløse is a town in Egedal Municipality, in the Capital Region of Denmark, about 25 kilometres north-west of central Copenhagen. Its map is organised around the railway. The S-train line to Frederikssund runs through the town, and the station area forms a small centre with shops and public buildings. Most other streets lead into residential neighbourhoods.
Those neighbourhoods show the typical Danish pattern of the later twentieth century. Detached houses sit on looping streets and closes, while terraced housing is grouped around shared green spaces. Paths run between them. Around the town there are fields, small woods and lakes, so the countryside comes close to the edge of the built-up area.
A Stenløse map poster shows the relationship between a railway line, the homes that grew up around it and the soft landscape of North Zealand. It is a gentle, balanced composition, practical rather than grand, and familiar to anyone who has lived there and taken the train into the city.

Looping residential closes
Housing areas are laid out on curving roads with short cul-de-sacs and footpaths between them. From above they form neat clusters, each with its own shape.
Lakes and fields
Small lakes, woodland and open farmland surround the town. They give the edges of the poster breathing space and a sense of the rural land beyond the commuter belt.
