Tashkent Map Poster & Print
Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan and the largest city in Central Asia, grew on an oasis watered by the Chirchiq River and a network of canals. From above, the map splits into two characters: the old town to the west, a dense grain of lanes around Chorsu Bazaar and the Khast Imam complex, and the newer city of wide avenues and large squares.
Much of the centre was rebuilt after the 1966 earthquake, which is why so many streets are generous and straight and so many blocks sit back behind trees. Amir Timur Square forms a hub of radiating roads, and the Ankhor canal runs through the middle of the city as a quiet green line. In 1977 Tashkent opened the first metro in Central Asia.

A round park at the centre with roads spreading out in several directions, forming one of the clearest radial shapes on the map and an easy point to orient from.
Ankhor canal
The canal winds through central Tashkent in a narrow line, followed by parks and footpaths, and links the old town and the new city across the drawing.
