Usagara sits in the Mwanza Region of northern Tanzania, a short distance inland from the southern shores of Lake Victoria. From above it reads as a modest settlement rather than a dense city: a main road carries most of the structure, and shorter lanes branch off it toward homes, plots and open ground. Home to roughly fifteen thousand people, the town shows the loose, open pattern common to this part of East Africa.
