Đetinja valley
The river runs through the town in a narrow valley, and the streets follow it closely, giving Užice its long and slender outline.

Užice Map Poster & Print
Užice lies in western Serbia, in the narrow valley of the Đetinja River. From above, the town stretches along the river for several kilometres, with streets rising up the slopes on both sides. The valley walls are steep, so the built-up area stays long and narrow, and roads climb the hillsides in switchbacks toward the surrounding high ground.
Above the river stand the ruins of the medieval Užice fortress, overlooking the gorge. Just below it, a hydroelectric plant opened in 1900, built on principles developed by Nikola Tesla, and it was among the earliest of its kind in Europe. In 1941 the town was the centre of the short-lived Užice Republic, and it was later known as Titovo Užice.
A Užice map poster captures the tension between river and slope: a long line of water, streets packed into the valley and roads curving up the hills. It is a map that clearly shows how landscape determines a town's shape, drawn cleanly in black and white.

Fortress hill
The medieval fortress sits on a rocky height above the river gorge, at the edge of the built-up area where the valley narrows.
Hillside roads
Roads wind up the steep slopes on both sides of the valley in curves and switchbacks, contrasting with the straighter streets along the river.
