The Agno valley
The river runs through the town along the narrow valley floor. Streets, the main road and most buildings follow its course, which gives the map its elongated shape.

Valdagno lies in the Agno valley in the province of Vicenza, in the foothills of the Veneto Prealps. The valley floor is narrow, so the town stretches along the river and its main road, with steep wooded slopes rising on both sides. From above, the built area forms a long band that thins into scattered hamlets as it climbs the hillsides.
The town is closely tied to the Marzotto textile company, which grew here from the nineteenth century. In the 1920s and 1930s the company developed the Città Sociale, a planned quarter of housing, schools and public buildings designed for its workers. It is still one of the most notable examples of industrial town planning in Italy.
A Valdagno map poster shows how geography and industry shaped a town together. The river and valley set the long, linear form. The factory areas and the planned quarter introduce more regular geometry. Winding mountain roads branch off into the hills, adding fine curving lines to the edges of the composition.

Città Sociale
The planned workers' quarter built by the Marzotto company stands out for its orderly layout. It contrasts with the older, more irregular streets of the historic centre.
Mountain roads
Narrow roads zigzag up the slopes to hamlets above the valley. Their switchbacks create delicate, winding lines at the edges of the poster.
