Yellowknife Map Poster & Print
Yellowknife is the capital of Canada's Northwest Territories, on the north shore of Great Slave Lake where Yellowknife Bay opens off the main water. The town is built on the bare rock of the Canadian Shield, and from above the landscape is full of small lakes, inlets and irregular shorelines.
On the map the shape splits into two parts. Old Town sits on a rocky peninsula at the edge of the bay, with a loose, winding street pattern and houseboats on the water nearby. Newer downtown lies on higher ground to the south, in a more regular grid next to Frame Lake, which sits almost in the centre of the city.
Yellowknife began as a gold-mining town in the 1930s, and the sites of its large mines remain part of the landscape. Today it is also known as one of the best places in the world to watch the aurora. A Yellowknife map poster shows the peninsula, the grid, Frame Lake and the rocky shoreline around them.

Frame Lake
A small lake sits between downtown and the newer neighbourhoods, a clear shape in the centre of the city that residents walk around on a trail.
Great Slave Lake shore
The broken, rocky shoreline of the bay and the lake beyond give the print a detailed and dramatic edge.
