Polder grid
Straight roads, ditches and field boundaries cross the reclaimed land at right angles. The pattern makes a precise, almost diagrammatic background.

Zeewolde stands on land that was seabed until the mid-twentieth century. It is part of Southern Flevoland, one of the polders reclaimed from the former Zuiderzee, and it became a municipality in 1984, which makes it the youngest in the Netherlands. On a map, that origin is obvious. Straight dykes, canals and field boundaries run at right angles across flat land.
The town itself sits on the edge of the Wolderwijd, one of the border lakes separating the polder from the older mainland. That shoreline, with its marinas and water edge, is the one strong curve in an otherwise geometric landscape. Inland, the Horsterwold forest was planted on the new land and appears as a large block of green among the fields.
A Zeewolde map poster makes the planned character of the place its subject: the neat rectangles of the polder, the drainage lines, the carefully arranged neighbourhoods and the lake beside them. The print shows how deliberately land can be made, which suits a modern, minimalist interior.

Wolderwijd shore
The border lake along the town's edge gives the map its main curve. Harbours and water frontage sit against the rectilinear polder.
Horsterwold forest
A large forest planted on the new land shows as a broad calm block among the fields, one of the defining shapes of the municipality.

Tabula quae aliquid significat
Zeewolde appeals to people who value its story as a town built on land that did not exist a century ago. Residents like how clearly the plan shows their neighbourhood, the lake and the polder beyond it.
