Zhicheng Map Poster & Print

Zhicheng is the seat of Changxing County in northern Zhejiang, close to the southwestern shore of Lake Tai. On a map the town sits where the hills to the west meet the flat, water-laced land around the lake, with small rivers and canals running through the streets toward the shore.

The older part of town follows the waterways, while newer districts are laid out in wide, regular blocks. Beyond the built-up area, the landscape breaks into fish ponds, fields and channels, which is typical of the Lake Tai basin. Changxing is also known for Zisun tea, grown in the hills of the county.

A Zhicheng map poster shows this edge between hill and water. The street pattern fills the centre, the channels draw thin lines through the fields, and the approach to the great lake gives the composition a strong sense of place.

01

Lake Tai shore

The town lies a short distance from Lake Tai, and its land slopes gently toward the water, crossed by channels that link the lake to the interior.

02

Canals and ponds

Around the centre the land is divided into ponds, rice fields and canals, producing a dense pattern of small shapes that looks almost like lace in monochrome.

03

Hills to the west

The west of the county rises into tea-growing hills, so the flat water grid gives way to contour-following roads at the edge of the map.

Cur Zhicheng

Tabula quae aliquid significat

Zhicheng is a place people carry with them, whether they left for Shanghai or Hangzhou or stayed near the lake. A map shows the canals and streets they know, more accurately than any postcard.

The title, subtitle and coordinates can be changed to a family name, a date or a short note. Choose from five styles (Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand) and download HD files or order a matte print.
