The quarry
The open-pit mine beside the town is a vast, stepped shape. On the print it is one of the most dramatic features, often larger than the residential area.

Zhitikara Map Poster & Print
Zhitikara is in Kostanay Region in northern Kazakhstan, on the open steppe near the border with Russia. It was formerly known as Dzhetygara. On a map, the town forms a compact grid of streets on flat land, surrounded by plains that stretch far in every direction.
The town grew up around the mining of asbestos, and the open-pit quarry beside it is one of the largest features on the map. Its huge, stepped outline, with waste heaps and industrial roads around it, is often larger than the town itself. The contrast between the orderly residential streets and the industrial landscape is striking.
A Zhitikara map poster shows a town defined by its industry and the steppe around it. The regular grid of streets, the vast quarry and the flat, open plains form a bold composition in black and white. For people who have lived and worked here, it is a recognisable portrait of a place that is rarely shown on a wall.
