Valley settlement
The town fills a strip of flat land along a valley floor. Its elongated shape, closely following the terrain, is the defining feature of the map.

Zhuxi Map Poster & Print
Zhuxi is a town in the mountainous northeast of Chongqing municipality, a region of steep hills, deep valleys and small rivers feeding towards the Yangtze. On a map, the town's shape comes straight from the terrain. The built-up area follows the flat ground along a valley, with streets squeezed between the water and the rising slopes.
As in much of this part of Chongqing, level land is scarce. Buildings are closely packed, and roads bend with the contours. Terraced fields and scattered farmhouses climb the hillsides around the town, and narrow roads snake over the ridges to link it with neighbouring valleys.
A Zhuxi map poster shows how a town adapts to difficult ground. The long, narrow street network, the winding lines of the roads and the open spaces of the surrounding hills create a composition with a strong sense of place and a clear, organic structure.

Winding roads
Roads leaving the town twist up and over the surrounding hills. Their curving routes stand out clearly against the empty spaces of the slopes.
Terraced hillsides
Farmland climbs the slopes around the town in small plots and terraces. These give the edges of the map a fine, irregular texture.
