Coity is on the northeastern side of Bridgend in South Wales. The historic village clusters around the ruins of Coity Castle, while the wider area includes large modern housing developments that have grown out toward it. Coity Castle was founded after the Norman conquest of Glamorgan and extended over later centuries. Its ruined walls still stand next to the village church. Farther north, the land rises toward the hills that lead into the South Wales valleys, and fields and woodland fill the gaps between the settlements.
