Hafnarfjörður sits on the southern shore of the capital area, a short drive from Reykjavík. From above, the town curves around a sheltered harbour. Its streets bend around old lava flows instead of following a grid, so the map looks irregular, with lanes that stop abruptly where the rock rises.
