Lüleburgaz lies in eastern Thrace, in the European part of Turkey, on the historic road between Istanbul and Edirne. On a map the main road cuts through the town from east to west, and the older streets cluster around it. The town's best-known monument is the Sokollu Mehmed Pasha complex, designed by the architect Mimar Sinan in the sixteenth century. Built beside the main road, it includes a mosque and a caravanserai for travellers. Lüleburgaz also gave its name to a major battle of the First Balkan War in 1912.
