D'Kaart
Novotroitsk lies in the far east of Orenburg Oblast, where the southern Urals give way to open steppe and the border with Kazakhstan is close. From above it looks deliberate. The residential districts follow a regular pattern of long, straight avenues and large rectangular blocks, the kind of mid-century layout that was drawn on paper before it was built. Around it, the land is wide and mostly empty.
The city grew up alongside a large metallurgical works, and that relationship still shapes the map. The industrial zone takes up a big area of its own, with rail lines, long sheds and service roads, set apart from the housing but clearly bound to it. Novotroitsk received town status in the 1940s. Its neighbour Orsk is close enough that the two can be read as one industrial corridor along the river.
The Ural River runs near the city, drawing a loose, meandering line through the steppe that contrasts with the right angles of the streets. On a Novotroitsk map poster, that contrast works well. Dense, orderly linework fills the centre of the sheet, the river's curves soften one side, and the quiet surroundings leave plenty of open paper around the city.

A large industrial area sits beside the housing, marked by rail sidings and long, rectilinear buildings. Its coarser texture stands apart from the finer residential streets on the map.
The river loops through the steppe near the city. Its curving course and scattered channels break up the geometry and give the composition a natural edge.
