Same is a district town in the Kilimanjaro Region of northern Tanzania, at the foot of the South Pare Mountains. The main road between Dar es Salaam and Moshi passes through it, and so does the old railway line to the north. Both run along the lowland at the base of the range, and the town's streets are strung along these corridors.
From above, Same looks long and narrow. A main road carries the market area and side streets, residential quarters spread onto gentle slopes, and then the mountains rise abruptly and roads turn into winding tracks. On the other side, the plains stretch toward the dry lowlands of Mkomazi National Park.
