Honmachi Map Poster & Print
Honmachi is the historic centre of Yatsushiro, a city on the western coast of Kumamoto Prefecture where the Kuma River spreads into its delta before reaching the Yatsushiro Sea. From above, the older quarter is a compact knot of short streets and small blocks around the site of the former castle. The river passes to the north and the railway runs as a steady line to the east.
Beyond the centre the map changes character. Much of the flat land toward the sea was reclaimed over centuries, and it shows up as long parallel field boundaries and drainage channels that look ruled in place.
