Iganga lies in the Busoga area of eastern Uganda, on the main road that runs east from Jinja toward the Kenyan border. On the map this road is the strongest line, a long diagonal that the town has grown along. A dense knot of short streets sits around it at the centre, and toward the outskirts the pattern loosens into scattered plots and tracks.
The land around Iganga is gently rolling and mostly farmed, so past the edge of town the roads thin out quickly. Footpaths and minor lanes branch off toward villages, and together they make a fine, irregular web.
